err, actually mart i was under the impression that extra armour increases fatigue in deserts due to heat exhaustion. It was certainly the case in Med 1..so im assuming it still it.

Indeed. When playing mtw, we talk about desert armies when fighting in the desert. Lightly armoured troops and camels are the way to go here. I see no reason why this shouldn't apply in m2tw too.

It would be better to test say a unit of peasants against a unit of dismounted gothic knights. Then it would be a substantial difference in armour, and it would be more possible to tell a difference.

It has to be the same base unit, militia spearmen or pikemen could be used, since they start out with no armour but can upgrade to heavy mail.
